As part of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho (UHAS) Nursing and Midwifery Students Association (NAMSA) week celebration, the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM) organized a two-day community health screening exercise at Dzolo-Gbogame and Akoefe in the Ho West District and Ho Municipality respectively. The celebration was organized under the theme “HEALTH FOR ALL: The role of the student Nurse and Midwife”.
The following services were offered in both communities: Health Education (Gathering), Blood Pressure and Pulse checking, Weight and Height Measure (BMI), Blood screening (for RBS, FBS, and HB), Eye screening, Health/ Physical Assessment and Breast Examination (Females only), Prostate Examination (Males only) and Counseling. The team also gave a talk on Diabetes, Hypertension and healthy lifestyle.
About four (400) hundred community members were attended to during the exercise and thirty-three (33) cases were referred to nearby hospitals for advanced medical care.
Togbe Kwame, the chief Regent of Dzolo-Gbogame and Togbe Dokro IV of Akoefe Kpenoe respectively expressed their gratitude to the UHAS NAMSA in particular and the University in general for keeping alive the UHAS vision which is ‘a pre-eminent health research educational institution dedicated to community service.
