UHAS-SBBS Hosts Maiden Dean’s Cup with Resounding Success

March 30, 2026

The School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences (SBBS) at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has successfully held its maiden Dean’s Cup Soccer Games, an initiative spearheaded by the Dean, Professor Seth Kwabena Amponsah, in collaboration with the Ghana Biochemistry Students Association (GHABSA).

The event, staged on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Ho Sports Stadium, brought together students, faculty and staff in a vibrant celebration of sports, unity and wellbeing. Designed to promote physical fitness, discipline, and sportsmanship, the programme also featured fun activities such as sack races and lime-and-spoon contests for female students, alongside the headline soccer matches.

The male soccer teams (Levels 100–400) played in a round-robin format, ensuring every team had multiple matches. Points and goal differences determined final standings. The female soccer teams competed through penalty shootouts, with winners advancing to the finals. The matches were officiated by qualified referees, with minor rule modifications approved by the organizing committee.

Upon fiercely contested games, Level 300 male and female teams emerged dominant, winning all their matches and being crowned undisputed champions of the inaugural Dean’s Cup.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award went to Mr. Joshua Ndolegnan, whose stellar performance was pivotal in securing victory for his team.

In his address, Prof. Amponsah praised the students for their passion and discipline, stating that “You showed respect to your teammates, your opponents, the referees and the game itself. You did not only compete with passion but also demonstrated fair play.”

He extended warm congratulations to the Level 300 champions and the MVP, while expressing gratitude to GHABSA’s Executive Committee, faculty and staff for their support. Special appreciation was given to Dr. Eric Agboli, Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Atiso and Mr. Nurudeen Idrisu for their coordination efforts.

The Maiden SBBS Dean’s Cup was more than a competition - it was a platform for unity, integration and student engagement with faculty. It underscored UHAS’ commitment to holistic education, balancing academic excellence with physical wellbeing and social interaction.

With the success of this maiden edition, the SBBS Dean’s Cup is poised to become one of the cornerstones of student life at UHAS, fostering a vibrant and supportive academic community.
