Current International Faculty

 

In a globally competitive world, the value of international faculty in higher educational institutions cannot be underrated. They tend to bring diversity and infuse a vast amount of experiences from other contexts. UHAS is greatly committed to developing its students to be the best on the job market. With the presence of international faculty, students will get the opportunity to learn from diverse perspectives. 

Prof. Elvis Enowbeyang Tarkang (CAMEROON) is a Professor at Fred N. Binka School of Public Health and currently, the Dean of the Office of International Programmes. He is editor-in-chief of a scientific journal and serves on several editorial boards of several other journals. His research areas include Adolescent Sexual and Social Behaviours, Health Promotion, HIV/AIDS Epidemiology and Institutional workplace HIV Policy Development. 

Prof. Orish Verner Ndudiri (NIGERIA) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of the School of Medicine. Prior to this, he was a Senior Medical Officer in the Ghana Health service, working at the Accident and Emergency Unit of Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region of Ghana. He was the clinical coordinator of Work the World Programme, supervising and teaching oversees medical and allied health students undergoing clinical electives at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital. He is a Parasitologist and a Physician with great interest in Infectious Disease research. 

Dr. Duniesky Martinez Lopez (GUANTANANMO) is a Senior Lecturer in Internal Medicine and Therapeutics at the School of Medicine and a Fellow in Family Medicine and Community Health from Cuba. He has worked in rural Cuba as well as some rural parts of Ghana. His research areas include anaemia in children and management of stroke. 

Dr. Fernando Miguel Almaguer Acevedo (CUBA) is the Acting Dean of School of Dentistry, UHAS. Prior to this, he was a Lecturer at the Medical Sciences University in Las Tunas, Cuba and the Head of Maxillofacial Department at Dr E. Guevara Teaching Hospital, also a Coordinator of the National Programme of Prevention and Precocious Detection of Oral Cancer in Las Tunas Province, Cuba. His area of research is oral cancer epidemiology. 

Dr. Barbara Yordanis Hernandez Cervantes (GUANTANANMO) is the Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the School of Medicine. She is a Senior Lecturer and Fellow in General Surgery. Prior to this, she was a Senior Lecturer at the Surgical Department at General and Gyneco-obstetric Teaching Hospital, Dr. Agosthino Neto, Guantánamo, Cuba and Head of Surgical Department at Wa Regional Hospital, Upper West, Ghana; she also worked as general surgeon in the St. Joseph Hospital and SDA hospital, Koforidua, Ghana. Her research areas include chronic pancreatitis treatment. 

Dr. Serafin Alcina Pereira (CUBA) is a Senior Lecturer at the Emergency and Critical Care Medicine of the UHAS School of Medicine from 2016 till date. Prior to this, he was a Senior Lecturer at the University for Development Studies, Tamale, Ghana. He is a member of the Cuban Society of Intensive and Emergency Medical Care as well as a Fellow in Family Medicine and Intensive and Emergency Medical Care. His research areas are critical illness in adult and critical maternal diseases. 

Dr. Maite Esquijarosa Hechavarria (CUBA) is the Head of the Anaesthesia Department and Lecturer at the School of Medicine. She has been with the University since 2015. Before joining UHAS, she was a Senior Lecturer at the Higher Institute of Medical Science, Ciego de Avila, Cuba and a member of the Cuban Society of Anaesthesiologists. She is also a Specialist in Anaesthesia and Resuscitation. Her areas of interest are Anaesthesiology and pain management. 

Dr. Radisnay Guzman Lambert (CUBA) is Senior Lecturer at the Surgical Department of the School of Medicine since 2014. He is also a Fellow in General Surgery, General Doctor and holds a master’s degree in Surgical Emergency. Prior to joining UHAS, he was a Senior Lecturer at the Surgical Department of the Guantanamo Teaching Hospital in the University of Health Santiago de Cuba (2006-2010), Coordinator of the Cuban Medical Brigade posted to the Upper East Regional Hospital, Bolgatanga as General Surgeon (2010-2013), headed the surgery department at Upper Easter Regional Hospital, Bolgatanga (Ghana) (2010-2014). His area of research includes abdomen and breast surgery. 

Dr. Magalys Lopez (CUBA) is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Pathology at the School of Medicine, UHAS. She is also a Consultant Pathologist at the Ho Teaching Hospital. She has a Fellowship in Pathology and a Master of Science (MSc) in Bioenergetics and Natural Medicine. 

Dr. Manuel Betancourt Benjamin (CUBA) is a Specialist in Radiology, Senior Lecturer and Consultant. He joined the University of Health and Allied Sciences in 2015 and he is currently the Head of Department for the Department of Medical Imaging, School of Medicine, UHAS. He is a member of Ghana Association of Radiologists. 

Ms. Gonzalez Mariuska Rodriguez (CUBA) is a chief nursing officer in the Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, UHAS. 

Mr. Kannan Govindan (INDIA) is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Orthotics and Prosthetics, School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS), UHAS. He holds an MSc. in Electronics from Bharathidasan University, India and a BSc. in Industrial Electronics from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, India. 

Mrs. Esther Chinyere Nwogu (NIGERIA) is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, UHAS. 

Dr. Olawale Ogundiran (NIGERIA) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, UHAS. 

Dr. Inemesit Okon Ben (NIGERIA) is a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology, School of Pharmacy, UHAS. 

Dr. Joy Nneoma Akameze (NIGERIA) is a Lecturer in the School of Sports and Exercise Medicine, UHAS. 

Dr. Veronica Okwuchi Charles-Unadike (NIGERIA) is an expert in Public Health Education and Promotion and a Lecturer in the Department of Population and Behavioural Sciences, Fred N. Binka School of Public Health, UHAS.
