UHAS Basic School Marks 5th Anniversary with Renewed Commitment to Excellence

March 30, 2026

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Basic School has celebrated its fifth anniversary, reaffirming its dedication to academic excellence, holistic education, and institutional growth.

The milestone event, held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the University’s Cedi Auditorium, brought together management, staff, parents, learners and distinguished guests to reflect on the school’s journey and chart a vision for the future.

In his welcome address, the Head of School, Mr. Seth Korgah, described the anniversary as a significant achievement, recalling the challenges of establishing the school during the COVID-19 pandemic. He praised the resilience of staff and stakeholders, noting that the institution has grown into a promising centre of learning. Mr. Korgah highlighted achievements such as consistent academic progress, sporting victories - including two gold medals and one silver - alongside co-curricular initiatives like Career Day, cultural programmes and community outreaches. He also emphasized the school’s charitable work supporting orphanages, hospitals and vulnerable groups.

Despite these successes, Mr. Korgah acknowledged ongoing challenges, including inadequate classrooms, limited resources, unstable water supply and the need for more computers and library materials. He appealed for continued stakeholder support to strengthen teaching and learning.

Chairman of the occasion, Professor Theophilus C. Fleischer, commended the school’s progress and underscored the importance of its motto, “Learning Today, Leaders Tomorrow.” He urged stakeholders to collaborate in nurturing responsible future leaders through holistic education that blends academic excellence with moral values.

A Former Registrar of UHAS, Dr. Cynthia S. Kpeglo-Freiku, recounted the origins of the school, explaining that it was established to address the need for quality basic education for children of university staff. She emphasized its role as a model institution for best practices in teaching, research and community engagement.

The Registrar of UHAS, Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, reaffirmed the University Management’s expectations of professionalism, innovation and accountability among staff, stressing that the school must build on its solid foundation to achieve greater impact.

A major highlight of the celebration was the launch of the school’s five-year strategic plan by the Vice Chancellor of UHAS, Professor Lydia Aziato. The plan outlines seven thematic areas, including educational excellence, administrative efficiency, staff development, improved learning environments and stronger stakeholder collaboration. Professor Aziato called for collective responsibility in implementing the plan to ensure measurable progress.

The event also featured the inauguration of the school’s cultural troupe by the Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor of UHAS, Professor Frank Edwin, who encouraged learners to take pride in representing the university.

The anniversary, themed “UBS at 5: A Solid Foundation for Excellence,” served as both a moment of reflection and a reaffirmation of the school’s vision to nurture well-rounded, confident, and morally upright future leaders.
