PROFILE OF DR MARK AMEXO
Dr. Mark Amexo is a Public Health Physician and Health Systems Management expert. He is currently an independent Global Health Consultantant. He previously worked for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland where he held the position of Malaria Portfolio Manager and later served time as Senior Technical Officer. Prior to that, he worked in Ghana as the UN Country Team Advisor on Malaria in the WHO Country office in Accra, a District Medical Officer for Kpando and Ho Municipalities, the Medical Superintendent of Worawora Hospital, and as a general Medical Officer in Agogo Presbyterian Hospital.
As a health consultant, he has worked at various periods for Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom, Price WaterHouse Coopers, Geneva-based GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization) on mission in Ghana. He undertook other major consultancy jobs for the World Bank Group (the hub in Washington, DC), Management Sciences for Health (MSH)/USAID (in MSH programme areas of Rational Pharmaceutical Management-plus and Global Program Management), WHO Headquarters in Geneva, Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership Secretariat (in the World Health Organization Headquarters) in Geneva, Switzerland. In the early years of the establishment of the Global Fund for HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFatm), Dr. Mark Amexo was appointed by the Global Fund Board to serve as a technical review panel member of the Geneva-based Fund.
Dr. Amexo studied Medicine at the School of Medical Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. He had his graduate-level education in Community Health and Health Management in the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
