VACANCY FOR SENIOR LEVEL ADMINISTRATIVE/ACADEMIC POSITIONS - DEANS/DIRECTORS
The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following positions to take effect from August 1, 2024:
ACADEMIC POSITIONS
POSITION 1: Dean of School of Sports and Exercise Medicine
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor
POSITION 2: Dean of School of Allied Health Sciences
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor
POSITION 3: Director of Institute of Health Research
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must:
a. Be of professorial status from an academic institution or a person from industry eligible to be appointed as such
b. Capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching research and extension services in the relevant disciplines
c. Provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School/Institute
d. Demonstrate the capacity to attract funding for research and development
e. Have the vision and drive to oversee the growth and development of the School/Institute
DUTIES
a. The Dean/Director is responsible for providing leadership to the School/Institute and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order in accordance with policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council and the Academic Board.
b. The Dean/Director is to ensure the approved programmes and functions of the School/Institute are duly carried out by members of the School/Institute.
c. The Dean/Director is also responsible for the general administration of the School/Institute in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of the University policy.
TENURE
The Dean/Director shall hold office for a term of three (3) years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term for up to three (3) years.
ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS
POSITION 1: Director of Human Resource
Reporting to: Registrar
QUALIFICATIONS
a. The candidate shall be of the rank of Deputy Registrar or eligible for appointment as such. OR
b. Must have a good first degree and a Master’s degree in a relevant field of HR Management; and equivalent professional qualification, with not less than ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in Human Resource Management.
c. In addition, the applicant must have:
i. Considerable strategic, interpersonal and collegial skills that will enable him/her to function within the Higher Education Sector
ii. Good business sense with a deep understanding and appreciation of the strategic and operational issues
iii. High-level analytical skills and demonstrable evidence of competence and leadership.
DUTIES
The Director of Human Resource shall:
a. Lead in the development and implementation of the human resources policies of the University
b. Provide strategic planning with respect to the human resource needs of the University
c. Ensure the timely renewal and termination of employment contracts
d. Institute and maintain a system for monitoring and evaluating the performance of all employees of the University and submit reports thereon to the Vice-Chancellor and the Council
e. Manage and advise on the collective bargaining process and collective agreements with unionised staff
f. Institute a system for continuing education and in-service training for all employees of the University; and
g. Discharge any other assignment that the Registrar shall deem necessary.
TENURE
The person appointed Director of HR shall hold office for a term of four (4) years and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to four (4) years.
POSITION 2: Director of Public Affairs
Reporting to: Registrar
QUALIFICATIONS
a. The candidate shall be of the rank of Deputy Registrar or eligible for appointment as such. OR
b. Must have a good first degree and a Master’s degree in a relevant field of Communication Studies and equivalent professional qualification, with not less than Ten (10) years progressively responsible experience in Public Affairs.
c. In addition, the applicant must have:
i. Considerable strategic, interpersonal and collegial skills that will enable him/her to function within the Higher Education Sector
ii. Good business sense with a deep understanding and appreciation of the strategic and operational issues
iii. High-level analytical skills and demonstrable evidence of competence and leadership
DUTIES
The Director of Public Affairs shall:
a. Be responsible for cultivating, coordinating and maintaining the University’s relations with its publics, including the media
b. Oversee the University’s functions and events, including congregation and inaugural, inter-school and valedictory lectures
c. Receive guests and visitors of the University and provide the necessary courtesies
d. Regulate and control the putting up of notices, posters and banners
e. Maintain relationship with Alumni of the University
f. Produce University publications
g. Undertake information gathering and analysis, perception studies and the identification of various groups of the general population in order to aid in public relations duties
h. Act as spokesperson of the University; and
i. Discharge any other assignment that the Registrar shall deem necessary.
