VACANCY FOR SENIOR LEVEL ADMINISTRATIVE/ACADEMIC POSITIONS – PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR
The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Pro-Vice Chancellor, to take effect from August 1, 2024
UHAS is a public university established by an Act of Parliament (Act 828) in December 2011 to be a preeminent research and practically oriented health educational institution dedicated to community service. Student and staff population stood at 8,352 and 848 respectively as of August, 2023.
PRO-VICE CHANCELLOR
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pro-Vice Chancellor shall, under the Vice Chancellor, be responsible for the management of academic functions of the University:
a. Management of the academic functions of the University, including:
i. Coordinating strategies for developing and implementing academic programmes of Schools and Departments
ii. Providing academic leadership to Deans and Heads of Departments
iii. overseeing the process of accreditation of programmes as established by the University
iv. Managing the academic process of the University, including admissions and examinations towards graduation
v. Ensuring the efficient development, coordination and smooth running of academic facilities and policies for teaching and learning
vi. Assisting Schools and Departments to obtain needed resources for teaching and learning
b. Facilitating opportunities for research and faculty development
c. Assisting the Vice Chancellor in raising funds to support research and other development projects
d. Overseeing the management of student life on campus
e. Acting for the Vice Chancellor in his/her absence
f. Carrying out any other responsibilities that the Vice Chancellor may assign to you
g. As Pro-Vice Chancellor, you will serve as the Chairman of the following Boards and Committees, among others:
i. Resource Allocation Committee for Academic Purposes
ii. Admissions Board
iii. Chaplaincy Board
iv. Residence Board
v. Academic Planning and Management Committee
vi. Housing Committee
vii. ICT Committee
viii. Appointments and Promotions Committee (Senior and Junior Staff)
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
The applicant must be of professorial rank and must be a distinguished scholar of international repute with extensive research and leadership skills.
THE PERSON
• Must have excellent knowledge in academic and research administration
• Must have problem-solving and negotiation skills
• Must be of unblemished character with a high level of personal integrity
TERM OF APPOINTMENT
The Pro-Vice Chancellor must be able to hold office for a term of three (3) years by retirement age of 60 years and be eligible for re-appointment for another term only.
