7th UHAS Matriculation Ceremony Held

The University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho (UHAS) held its seventh Matriculation Ceremony for 869 freshmen and women enrolled for the 2018/2019 Academic Year. The ceremony was held at the University’s Cedi Auditorium, Main Campus, Sokode-Lokoe, Ho.

Addressing the matriculants, Professor John Owusu Gyapong, Vice Chancellor of UHAS said the University offered 2,151 admissions out of the 5,549 applications received; consisting of 5,420 undergraduate and 129 post-graduate applications for Masters and PhD respectively. In all, the University admitted 6 PhD students for Medical Imaging, 43 Masters students and 820 undergraduates.

He said as one of the youngest public universities in Ghana, UHAS students face a number of challenges including transportation. He however assured the students that Management has in place diverse strategies towards improving upon existing facilities as well as building new ones.

The Vice Chancellor also seized the opportunity to inform the matriculants of Ghana Government’s agreement with the Chinese Government to construct the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Central Administration block as part of the second phase of the UHAS project. He also stated that the University is currently considering the construction of student accommodations under Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements.

The Vice Chancellor urged the matriculants to wholeheartedly embrace the opportunities that UHAS presents. He called on them to achieve excellence by developing critical thinking skills and have the right balance between their academic and social lives.

He concluded by cautioning the freshmen and women to adhere to the rules and regulations of the University as captured in the student handbook.

The Registrar, Dr. Cynthia Sena Kpeglo who administered the Matriculation Oath, congratulated the students and also advised them to be disciplined Junior Members of UHAS.

Miss Helena Yaa Darkoa Pabby, a level 100 Doctor of Pharmacy student delivered a message on behalf of the 2018/2019 Matriculants. She appealed to Government and the University authorities to timeously attend to the pressing challenges facing students.

The matriculation ceremony was attended by officials of the University including the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Seth Owusu-Agyei, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and other members of Convocation. A number of parents, guardians and other relatives of the matriculants also witnessed the ceremony.
