The University of Health and Allied Sciences has held a two-part seminar for its faculty on avoiding predatory journals and improving the quality of their works. The purpose of the seminar was to draw the attention of faculty to publishing professionally and avoiding predatory journals whose sole purpose was to take advantage of authors without contributing to science.
Speaking on the theme “Dealing with predatory journals and multiple authorship”, founding Vice Chancellor, Professor Fred Binka said publication in the right journal was in itself a contribution to knowledge.
“Those journals won’t accept mediocre works. If a work is not up to standard, they will reject it,” and added that the standards also positively affect the quality of lectures.
He advised the audience to always search for journals that ascribed to the standards of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, and also to the standards set forth by UHAS.
