Bank of Ghana has donated an ultra-modern multi-purpose auditorium to the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho (UHAS). The building is ‘christened’ ‘Cedi Auditorium’ as a sign of gratitude to the Bank of Ghana for solely funding its construction at a cost of 8 million Ghana Cedis.
The 1,200 seat auditorium consists of two (2) fifty-sitting capacity seminar rooms, two (2) offices and a proposed banking hall.
At a brief commissioning ceremony, Mrs. Caroline Otoo, Secretary to the central bank’s Board of Directors read a speech on behalf of the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison. In the speech, the Governor said the construction of the building commenced in October, 2014 when the Board of Bank of Ghana approved financial support for the project.
The Governor paid glowing tributes to his predecessors, Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah, whose tenure the concept to construct the facility was conceived and Dr. Abdul Nashiru-Issahaku. He also commended the Vice Chancellor and Management of UHAS for a collaboration that has culminated in the completion of the facility.
He concluded with an appeal to the Management of UHAS to adopt effective maintenance culture to prolong the lifespan of the facility.
Justice Victor J.M. Dotse, Chairman of the Governing Council of UHAS, on his part reiterated the need for Management to adopt an effective maintenance culture to help keep the edifice intact for future generations. He urged Management to fashion out ways of using the facility to generate income without causing any disruption to academic work on campus.
Professor John Gyapong, Vice Chancellor of UHAS also paid tributes to the past and present leadership of the Bank of Ghana for fully funding the Cedi Auditorium. He further expressed the University’s appreciation to his predecessor, Professor Fred Newton Binka for his illustrious initiative, First Sky Limited (the construction company that built the auditorium), sub-contractors, staff of Works and Physical Development Directorate of UHAS and all other stakeholders who contributed to the construction of the building.
The Chief Executive of First Sky Limited, Mr Eric Seddy Kutortse, also expressed his company’s gratitude to the University and Bank of Ghana for affording his company the opportunity to undertake the construction of the Cedi Auditorium.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by officials of the University including the Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Seth Owusu-Agyei, Dr. Cynthia Sena Kpeglo, the Registrar, Rev. Ken Dzotefe of E.P. Church Headquarters (who dedicated the building unto the hands of the Almighty God), Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and other senior members. A number of staff of First Sky Limited and other stakeholders also witnessed the brief ceremony.
