The Department of Health Policy Planning and Management (HPPM) at Fred N. Binka School of Public Health (FNBSPH) held a four-day workshop from June 20 to 23, 2023 to strengthen the capacity of district health staff and postgraduate students to effectively conduct monitoring and evaluation of health programmes. The training brought together 20 participants from the Hohoe Municipal and Afadjato South district health directorates, Masters and PhD students from FNBSPH.

Opening the workshop, Acting Dean, Professor Paul Amuna, reiterated the relevance of health metrics to health systems strengthening, and called on participants to use the opportunity presented to deepen their skills and capacity in order to effectively support the health system function.

On his part, HPPM Head of Department, Dr. Martin Ayanore, hinted that the department has plans to institute this workshop as an annual event on the FNBSPH calendar, and advised participants to seize the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation roles in project/programme interventions life span.

Faculty from the Health Policy Planning and Management Department and Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department took participants through practical approaches in conducting monitoring and evaluation. Participants were awarded certificates upon completion. Most expressed excitement about the workshop, as it provided them the platform to develop critical soft skills and new approaches to effectively support and conduct monitoring and evaluation of health interventions.
