Report filed by Grace Adegbedzi, photos by Sarah Asare-Dompreh, Directorate of Public Affairs.

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, on December 22, donated a brand-new chest freezer to the University’s newly built Sokode Hall of Residence in response to Vice Chancellor Lydia Aziato’s call to stakeholders to meet the needs of the University during her investiture. The donation was presented by the Volta Regional executives of GRNMA, led by Mr. Moses Robertson Anyigba. He said, as an association, they have recognized the importance of UHAS to the development of its members since it is strategically located in the Volta Region.

Prof. Aziato mentioned that the School of Nursing and Midwifery is the largest constituent of the university, and therefore serves the members of GRNMA. She mentioned the newly mounted M.Phil. Nursing programme at UHAS, and encouraged the nurses to seize the opportunity of enrolling in order to advance in their careers.

Registrar Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, who received the freezer on behalf of the University, promised that it would be well maintained and used for its intended purpose. She also requested the association and other philanthropists to continue supporting the University.

Sokode Hall comprises four apartment-style blocks, each with four floors. The university is hoping for more of such donations to equip each floor with a chest freezer, to enable students to properly store food, as the main Campus is isolated from town. All donations are welcome, and interested sponsors are encouraged to contact the UHAS administration to arrange a visit.
