Story filed by Directorate of Public Affairs, UHAS.

Vocational Training Day (VT Day) was first introduced by the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health in 2019. It is an annual post-VT event bringing together VT stakeholders including the UHAS VT Unit, preceptors and all our partners, UHAS senior management, faculty and staff. The day offers an opportunity for interaction among these stakeholders for the purpose of feedback and evaluation of recent activities on the VT programme, lessons learnt, and renewed commitments towards the next academic year.

This year’s VT Day was held on Monday 15 August at the forecourt of Binka School. There were two sessions: an in-person programme for Regular students and a virtual session for Sandwich students.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Lydia Aziato was the Special Guest of Honour. She admonished the students to take the programme very seriously as this is the only way they would get hands-on experience. She also asked them to strive for the best, using her journey from nursing to her current position as an example of the benefits of hard work.

Student groups from level 200 to level 400 made oral presentations and displayed posters based on their VT experiences. Other stakeholders also made presentations. Faculty conducted feedback sessions. These findings will be used to help review implementation of the VT programme and the results will be published.

The event was also attended by Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, Registrar of UHAS; Prof. Paul Amuna, Dean of Binka School and Prof. Margaret Kweku, former Dean; faculty and staff of FNBSPH; staff of Volta Regional Hospital, some preceptors, and friends of Binka School.
