Kenyan High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Eliphas Mugendi Barine, paid a courtesy call on University of Health and Allied Sciences, November 9, while in the Volta Region to meet with members of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI). He was accompanied by Mr. Samson Koech, Deputy Head of Misssion, Kenyan High Commission and Mr. Dela Gadzanku, Volta Regional Chair of AGI, who facilitated the visit to UHAS.

kenya 1

Mrs. Maria Gwira, Director of Public Affairs, who received Mr. Barine at the Main Campus in Sokode Lokoe on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, gave the High Commissioner and his entourage an overview of the University, covering its mandate, structure and notable achievements during the eight years since its establishment.

kenya 2Mr. Barine expressed appreciation that the University had so graciously received him on short notice. He lauded the University’s role in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and expressed the desire that UHAS would explore areas of collaboration with Kenyan universities that have similar mandates. He said, by focusing on solving Africa’s development problems, such partnerships would perhaps convert the continent’s “brain drain into brain gain” and feed into the Pan-African vision jointly held by “our founding fathers” Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya.

Mrs. Gwira said UHAS is always open to discussions with other institutions on issues of possible mutual benefit.
