A two-person delegation from the Volta Regional branch of Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Associations (GHAFTRAM) paid a working visit to the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine (ITAM) at UHAS.

This was the first visit of the Federation since the establishment of the Institute. The Regional Chairman of the Federation, Traditional Dr. Amaglo Atisu, led the delegation and was accompanied by the Regional Secretary, Traditional Dr. Jacob Fenteng. Tr/Dr. Atisu said that this familiarisation visit is timely, adding that GAFTRAM is “pleased to be associated with ITAM.”

Prof. Marcel T. Bayor, Director of ITAM, welcoming the team on behalf of the University, also expressed delight about the budding relationship between the Federation and the Institute. He reiterated that as one of its mandates, the Institute is required to optimise healthcare through education, training, research, product development, advocacy, community engagement and service delivery.

He also informed the team of a workshop being planned by the Institute on the theme: “Effective Product Development for Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioners”, which is scheduled to take place later in the year, and encouraged GHAFTRAM members to attend the workshop in their numbers, as this would help them to come out with products that are up to standard.
