The Commanding Officer of the 66 Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Sarpong Appiah paid a courtesy call on Senior Management of UHAS on Thursday, January 28, 2021 in his capacity as the new head of the military regiment which is based in the Volta Region. Lt. Col. Edward Sarpong Appiah took over from Col. Bernard Pantoah on 29 December 2020 as Commanding Officer of the regiment and all garrisons across Volta and Oti regions of Ghana.
Lt. Col. Appiah said his outfit intends to continue collaborating with major regional stakeholders such as UHAS, hence the importance of building good working relations with the University.
Vice Chancellor Professor John Gyapong confirmed that the University enjoys a good working relationship with the military, with which it has been collaborating on issues of security and other areas of mutual interest. He cited a joint effort between the University and the Military High Command to facilitate COVID-19 testing of some samples from the Ghana Armed Forces.
“We pray and hope that we continue this kind of relationship for our mutual benefit,” he said.
UHAS Registrar Dr. Cynthia S. Kpeglo also called for the reopening of discussions on making the regiment’s officers’ mess available to UHAS staff and faculty for recreational use.
