Mr. David Adzovie, the Human Resource Director of the University of Health and Allied Sciences has advised senior staff of the University to be concerned about their career development. He said taking control of one’s career development allows for easier career progression.
Speaking at a September 29 training workshop for senior administrative staff aimed at equipping them with essential skills and knowledge in critical areas of their work, Mr. Adzovie said his directorate believes in developing staff, especially in a university learning environment. “Knowledge management is key in today’s environment. There is the constant need to learn, unlearn and relearn,” he said.
He noted the importance of not only developing the skills needed, but also continually practicing to gain mastery of the skills acquired, and called on staff to take advantage of such in-house trainings with all seriousness so as to better their lots. “What is learnt on the field is much richer than what is usually acquired in school,” he stressed.
Participants were taken through several topics, including “Ethical considerations and professionalism in administration”, which was handled by Ms. Lily Adu-Aboagye; “Handling of correspondence” by Mr. Solomon D. Akrong; “Electronic filing system” by Mr. Stephen K. Senaya; and “Systems and procedures in university administration” by Mr. Cedric B. Dorkonoo.
Mr. Adzovie took the participants through “Career growth and promotion”, “Leadership essentials for administrators”, “Managing your boss/supervisor” and “Performance management”.
