The Directorate of Human Resources of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) held a two-day proposal-writing workshop for senior administrative and professional staff to help build their research capabilities.
Participants from all UHAS campuses were taken through several topics led by Professor Margaret Gyapong, Director of the Institute of Health Research (IHR), UHAS and Professor Evelyn Ansah, Director of the Centre for Malaria Research, IHR. Topics covered areas such as: “Guidelines on administrative proposal writing in an academic environment”; “Research proposal writing”; and “Ethical considerations for proposal writing in an academic environment”.
Dr. Cynthia Kpeglo, Registrar, in her opening statement said this workshop was not out of place since the university, as a science institution, has a health research component that could benefit all. "Even as administrators, you can benefit from the tutelage and activities in delivering your technical papers in your small areas,” she said.
She said in an ever-changing world, there is a need to continuously learn to keep abreast of happenings. She noted that there were several topics and areas that needed to be researched to benefit target audiences, and she encouraged participants to endeavour to get their research works published in acclaimed journals to make themselves and the University proud.
Mr. David Adzovie, Director of Human Resources said the workshop would further equip the senior members on how to better handle the university administration. “We have been having discussions on how we can upgrade the profiles of the University administrators in various capacities, and this is one of them,” he said.
