University of Health and Allied Sciences is open to collaborating with local businesses and industries in the Volta region to realize the full developmental potential of region, according to the Vice Chancellor in a message delivered on his behalf by Mrs. Maria B. Gwira, Director of Public Affairs of the University, during the official launch of the 5th Volta Trade and Investment Fair.

Representing the Vice Chancellor at the media launch and endorsement of the upcoming fair, Mrs. Gwira said: “Our scientists and health care givers at UHAS are not only providing an array of essential services to the communities of Volta and Oti, but as our institution expands, so also do opportunities for creating business alliances and other collaborations within and outside our region.”

She said, the University provides unique opportunities for collaboration with businesses to bring science and health care to bear on the development of the region, and cited several examples of potential business opportunities, such as the new Department of Orthotics and Prosthetics that would need prostheses to operate; hand sanitizers being produced in limited quantities by the School of Pharmacy, which could be scaled up with proper financing; and the new School of Sports and Exercise Medicine, which would benefit from an alliance with a local gymnasium or sports club.

Volta Regional Minister Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, who delivered the keynote address, called on businesses to take advantage of the opportunities that would derive from the fair by paying critical attention to product packaging.

The event Chairperson, Technologist and Entrepreneur Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson, urged the business community not to treat this fair as business as usual, but rather, as a great opportunity to expand and exploit great potentials of the region, including tourism.

The launch took place at the Regional Minister’s residency in Ho. The fair, scheduled for 15 to 28 November 2021, will showcase industries and businesses within the region and bring together other players from outside the region for business partnerships and investment opportunities. The theme for this year’s fair is ‘2021 Fair: Promoting Sustainable Trade Investment.’
