University of Health and Allied Sciences has welcomed a new batch of students through the 2020/2021 Sandwich programmes of the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) and the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONAM). The UHAS Sandwich programmes, which enable already-practising health professionals to upgrade their education, are offered through these two schools and the School of Public Health.
The Registrar Dr. Sena Kpeglo administered the matriculation oath.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony on October 1 to induct the new entrants, Vice Chancellor Professor John O. Gyapong said as a public university solely dedicated to training health professionals, UHAS has put in place necessary steps to ensure that its students excel. “The University in turn expects you to learn extra hard as we have assembled a good team of experienced faculty to guide you,” he said.
He charged the students to be good ambassadors of the institution by modelling good behaviour and character, while making good use of the opportunity to better themselves. He also cautioned them to avoid all forms of examination malpractice, as the repercussions would be dire: “Students caught in examination malpractice will be rusticated.”
Professor Gyapong admitted that the University has its own challenges, especially in the area of infrastructure, but said talks are already underway to resolve some of these. “One of our major challenges is the roads, but the contract has been re-awarded for work to begin,” he assured the students.
