The University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho and Yonsei University, South Korea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the “Public Health and Educational Capacity Development of the University of Health and Allied Sciences project”. The project is primarily aimed at developing faculty capacity in selected schools through improved faculty and student exchanges, workshops among others. It also aims at reviewing the curricula on the flagship Vocational Training Programme (VTP) in UHAS. The collaboration project started in April 2017 and is expected to end in March 2021.
The Principal Investigator of the UHAS/Yonsei collaboration project, Professor So Yoon Kim has revealed that, the National Research Foundation (NRF), funders of the project are elated about the outcome of the project at the end of its second year. The Project, at the end of the second year scored a grade `A` with 83.67 %. According to the NRF, the project was being carried out in the right direction and is considered highly sustainable. The funders however recommended that, the project output should be developed and the quality control of the output needed to be strengthened in order to obtain official certification.
The Yonsei group also met with the Deans of the Schools of Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery and Public Health to discuss plans for the third project year which begins in May 2019. It was noted that, in the third year more effort will be made towards strengthening the capacity of Faculty in the School of Public Health.
Professor Kim took the opportunity to introduce new members of the Project Management Office in both Yonsei and Ghana - They are Prof. Sunjoo Kang (Project Adviser in Seoul), Mr Jaewon Lee (Project Manager to be based in UHAS), and Ms. Hyojung Suh (Project Manager in Yonsei).
