The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has donated to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) a smart classroom system worth about $200,000, making UHAS one of four beneficiaries in Africa. The smart classroom system is a virtual and cloud technology modelled to enhance virtual learning and includes an interactive smart touch panel, a high-speed scanner, six sets of instruments display, a recording system, LCD writing board and LCD writing board holder.

The UNESCO Country Representative in Ghana, Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo (shown above with the VC during a visit on 20 June 2022), lauded the University for staying true to its mandate of training health professionals and leading in health research, an area that is dear to UNESCO. He said the smart classroom project is a start to more contributions from the various stakeholders who contributed to the project as it remains “open to further adjustment and contextualization.”

Vice Chancellor Professor John O. Gyapong said the University’s online training programmes continue to witness expansion, making the addition of a smart-classroom project an extra benefit to UHAS. He noted, however, that the cost of training continues to derail the pursuance of the University’s mandate and appealed to UNESCO to make training readily available for easy implementation of this project.

Mr. Alfred Kumah, the University’s Senior IT Officer, said the project is expected to provide a solution that allows live streaming and recording of lectures. He also appealed to UNESCO to support the University with a fully integrated School Management System.
