Vice Chancellor, Professor Lydia Aziato has inaugurated a new Research Ethics Committee (REC) after the completion of a four-year tenure by the old board. The 17-member committee is made up of eight academics from UHAS and nine non-scientists.
The Committee is mandated to review and approve all research planned to be conducted in UHAS facilities and/or involves staff and students of the University.
Speaking to the newly-inaugurated committee, Prof. Aziato, said REC is crucial to helping UHAS achieve her strategic goal of becoming a world class institution capable of conducting cutting-edge research. She therefore charged them to provide independent, competent and timely reviews for the overarching aim of protecting the scientific integrity of research work associated with the University.
At the end of the inauguration, there was a brief send-off ceremony for out-going members who were presented with citations of honour and presents by the Director of the Centre for Non-Communicable Diseases, Professor Seth Owusu-Agyei, and Prof. Aziato.
