A. VACANCy FOR SENIOR LEVEL ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION (DEAN OF STUDENTS)
The University of Health and Allied Sciences invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following positions to take effect from 1st August, 2023. The position of the Dean of Students reports directly to the Pro. Vice Chancellor:
The Dean of Students shall be responsible, under the Pro-Vice Chancellor for:
a. The provision of chaplaincy services through the Chaplaincy Board to students and other members of the University;
b. The resolution of conflict between students and halls and hostels of residence as well as conflicts involving students outside of halls and hostels;
c. Making representation to the University about ways of enhancing the quality of students' life;
d. Ensuring the maintenance of cordial relations among the various student groups and the student body as a whole, to ensure that they obtain maximum benefit from their university experience;
e. Ensuring the orderly organisation of students' activities within the University;
f. Providing leadership to all bodies and activities that promote the well-being of students of the University including the Students' Representative Council (SRC), and UHAS branch of Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG);
g. Overseeing the management of dues and other levies collected by the Students' Representative Council (SRC) and the UHAS branch of GRASAG from students or on behalf of students;
h. Overseeing the formation of students’ associations;
i. Working with student groups in developing extra-curricular programmes and activities of the University;
j. Co-ordinating with the groups to encourage the participation of students in the activities that promote personal growth and development of students;
k. Encouraging the development of a student culture, exercises of leadership, respect for diversity and the traditions of the University, and responsibility for personal actions;
l. Giving permission to students to go on protest marches and demonstrations whether within or outside the University;
m. The Dean of Students shall be assisted by an Advisory Board in the discharge of his/her duties.
Experience and Qualification required
The applicant must:
i. Be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible to be appointed as such;
ii. Be capable of providing managerial and administrative leadership to the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs.
iii. Have the vision and drive to oversee the growth, welfare and development of student affairs in UHAS.
iv. Have the capacity to work with student leaders to maintain a harmonious student front and promote a cordial working relationship between the student body and management of the University.
v. Have experience of working effectively with young people and a good understanding of the factors that affect the lives of young people.
vi. Have very good interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate effectively with young people.
vii. Have effective dispute prevention and management skills.
Tenure
The successful applicant shall hold office for at least three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years only.
