The Office of Miss UHAS, under the auspices of the SRC Secretariat, launched a charitable project dubbed “Health Our Wealth (HOW)” on 17 August, as vehicle to positively affect the lives of many vulnerable and less-privileged people.

Miss Vivian Appreko, a level-300 Nursing student, was crowned Miss UHAS for the 2019/2020 academic year. As only the second Miss UHAS, her vision is to ensure the sustainability of charitable projects emanating from that position. Her inspiration to undertake the HOW social project was borne out of the fact that there are more children abandoned in orphanages under the oversight of caregivers who are inundated with numerous challenges that hinder their ability to provide quality care to these children. Without constant support from corporate and religious bodies and individuals, life would be unbearable for these abandoned children.

From 17 to 31 August, Miss UHAS and her team visited several facilities in Ho, including Rhema Children’s Home, Ho Prisons, and Healed Lepers’ Village, where she donated cash, food items, clothes, veronica buckets and stands, soaps and hand sanitizers, and masks.

The recipients of these donations expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Miss UHAS and her team.

Mr. Adrews Dzokoto, Deputy Director of Ho prisons, extolled Miss Appreko for her vision and prayed for her to excel in her career as a nurse; he also lamented about the congestion in the prison, which was initially built to house 150 inmates but has long exceeded its intake, posing a serious challenge to the facility.

Madam Gertrude, one of the cured lepers at the Healed Lepers’ Village, prayed that Miss Vivian would not only be Queen in UHAS but should one day become Miss Ghana.

Finally, Miss Appreko stated that the Office of Miss UHAS would continue to churn out pro-poor initiatives geared towards “putting smiles on the faces of the vulnerable and less privileged and towards strengthening the UHAS brand.”
