Postgraduate Entry Requirements & Guidelines

General Entry Requirement (Postgraduate) 

 

  • Applicants shall be required to pass an entrance interview

  • Applicants shall provide details of two referees preferably, academic and professional 

  • Applicants may be required to take an entrance examination. 

  • Applicants would be required to provide Recommendation Letters from Referees

 

Softcopies of the following documents would be required to complete the application:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).

  • Transcript of academic records.

  • Research proposal (Abstract) of not more than 500 words for Masters applicants 

  • Research proposal (Abstract) of not more than 700 words for PhD applicants

  1. Doctor of Philosophy (Pharmacology)

Duration: 4 Years, Full-Time

Entry Requirements 

  • A master’s degree (with research) or its equivalent in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences or any other relevant field of study. 

 

  1. Master of Philosophy (Pharmacology)

    Duration: 2 Years, Full-Time

Entry Requirements

  • A first degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower division or equivalent in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacy (BPharm/PharmD), Nursing, Medicine, Optometry, Physician Assistantship or relevant field.

 

iii)     Doctor of Philosophy (Toxicology)

Duration: 4 Years, Full-Time

Entry Requirements

  • A master’s degree (with research) or its equivalent in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Allied Health Sciences or relevant field of study.

 

iv)      Master of Philosophy (Toxicology)

Duration: 2 Years, Full-Time

Entry Requirements 

  • A first degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Science, Molecular and Cell Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, Chemistry or relevant field of study.  

 

v)      Doctor of Philosophy (Pharmacognosy)

Duration: 4 Years, Full-Time

Entry Requirements 

  • A master’s degree (with research) or its equivalent in a relevant science programme (including Pharmaceutical Sciences, Herbal Medicine, Pure or Applied Chemistry, Biochemistry, Life and Biomedical Sciences) or related discipline. 

  • Applicants with professional postgraduate certificate (membership and fellowship) in a recognized health profession may also be considered. 

 

vi)      Master of Philosophy (Pharmacognosy)

Duration: 2 Years, Full-Time

  • A first degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent in Pharmacy, Herbal Medicine, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Pure or Applied Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences and related fields or equivalent.

 

vii)     Doctor of Philosophy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry)

Duration: 4 Years, Full-Time

Entry Requirements

  • A master’s degree or its equivalent in relevant science programme (including, but not limited to pure or applied chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, life and biomedical sciences or any other related discipline). 

  • Applicants with membership and/or fellowship from either West African Postgraduate or Ghana College of Pharmacists, or any other equivalent professional certification from a recognized institution relevant to this programme, may also be considered

  • An MPhil (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) candidate of the Department who satisfies conditions for conversion to PhD (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) may also be admitted based on recommendation of Graduate Admission Committee.

  • International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, or equivalent including the UHAS English Proficiency programme), unless previous degree was taught in English.

 

viii)    Master of Philosophy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry)

Duration: 2 Years, Full-Time

Entry Requirements

  • A first degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent in pure or applied chemistry, herbal medicine, biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, life and biomedical sciences from an accredited institution.

  • International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, or equivalent including the UHAS English Proficiency programme), unless previous degree was taught in English. 

 

ix)     Master of Science (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) 

Duration: 1 Year, Full-Time

Entry Requirements

  • A first degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 or equivalent or equivalent in pure or applied chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, life and biomedical sciences or a related science programme.

  • A candidate with a minimum of three years working experience in the pharmaceutical industry and with a background in a relevant science programme as described above may be considered through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment.

  • International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, or equivalent including the UHAS English Proficiency programme), unless previous degree was taught in English.
