The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) has once again shone the spotlight on student achievement, hosting its second Dean’s Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The event, held at the University’s main campus at Sokode-Lokoe, Ho reaffirmed UHAS’ commitment to nurturing excellence in teaching, learning and research.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Nsor-Atindana, Chairman of the Awards Committee, emphasized that the initiative reflects the University’s core mandate of promoting academic distinction. He urged awardees to remain steadfast in their studies and continue striving for greater accomplishments.
The Vice Chancellor of UHAS, Professor Lydia Aziato, praised SAHS leadership for sustaining the awards scheme, describing it as a vital platform for motivating students. She paid tribute to the immediate past Dean, Professor Samuel Essien-Baidoo, for instituting the initiative, and urged students to draw inspiration from their peers’ success. Professor Aziato also appealed to the Guest of Honour, H.E. Captain Seth Nfodjo, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Togo, to champion infrastructural development at UHAS, particularly campus roads and student accommodation.
Professor Essien-Baidoo, currently the Acting Research Director at the National Vaccine Institute, described the ceremony as a symbol of unity and motivation. He urged students to remain resilient and focused on their academic journey.
The programme featured a musical interlude by Ms. Mawuyrami Ocloo, a resident music therapist at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, who highlighted the role of music therapy in healthcare.
Delivering his keynote, Captain Nfodjo commended UHAS leadership for its dedication to academic and institutional growth. He recalled his role in securing land for the University and praised its progress. He further disclosed plans to collaborate with the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) to support the construction of hostel facilities for students.
A total of eighteen students were honoured for outstanding academic performance. Representing the awardees, Ms. Rebecca Afua Amakye, the Overall Best Student from the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences programme, expressed gratitude to the University Management, faculty and mentors, urging her colleagues to remain committed to excellence.
The Acting Dean of SAHS, Professor Fidelis Kpodo, closed the ceremony with words of appreciation to University Management, sponsors and partners for their support.
