Department Of Medical Laboratory Sciences Graduate Programmes
A. M.PHIL IN MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES PROGRAMME with options in:
a. Chemical Pathology
b. Haematology and Transfusion Science
c. Histopathology and Cytopathology
d. Immunology/Vaccinology
e. Microbiology (Parasitology, Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology)
Admission Requirements
i. The applicant MUST hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or its equivalent) in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology and other Biomedical Science programmes (e.g., BSc. Biochemistry, BSc. Biological Science, BSc. Animal Biology/ZooIogy, BSc.Human Biology, etc.).
ii. Applicant MUST show evidence of completion of national service.
iii. Applicants MUST submit a research proposal (not more than 700 words).
iv. Applicants MUST submit two reference statements/letters, one of which SHOULD be from academic.
v. Ghanaians and foreigners are eligible to apply.
vi. Applicants MUST pass an admission exam and interview.
B. Ph.D IN MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES PROGRAMME with options
a. Chemical Pathology
b. Histopathology
c. Microbiology
Admission Requirements
1. Applicant MUST have an M.Phil. degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or an equivalent Postgraduate Medical Laboratory Science qualification from an accredited University.
OR
ii. Applicants MUST hold an MSc (with Research) in Medical Laboratory Sciences or an equivalent Postgraduate Medical Laboratory Sciences qualification from an accredited University.
Applicants with MSc without research will be given a conditional offer by the School of Graduate Studies. They SHALL take prescribed course work in the FIRST YEAR. Candidates will be assessed upon successful completion of the Prescribed coursework. Successful candidates will be admitted to the Ph.D. programme. UNSUCCESSFUL candidates will be given the opportunity to RESIT the examination WI THIN THREE (3) MONTHS. Candidates who record two (2) consecutive failures or are unable to meet the criteria will be disallowed from continuing the program and may be allowed to do M.PhiI, where they SHALL proceed to do M.PhiI thesis research. A applicants MUST submit two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
iii. Applicants MUST submit a research proposal (not more than 700 words) Ghanaians and foreigners are eligible to apply.

i. Master Of Biomedical Science, Biomedical Science
Entry Requirement
• Admission to the MSc Biomedical Science programme shall require a good first degree (second class lower or better) or its equivalent in Biomedical Sciences, Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or any other relevant field of study from any recognized University.
• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
• Further to the above, all applicants will be required to attend an admission interview and/or take and pass an entrance examination at the Department Research proposal (not more than 700 words)
• Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply.
ii. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL), BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE
Entry Requirement
• Applicants must hold a first degree (at least 2nd class lower or 2.0 CGPA) from a recognized university in areas such as Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Health related degrees.
• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees
• Further to the above, all applicants will be required to attend an admission interview and/or take and pass an entrance examination at the Department Research proposal (not more than 700 words)
• Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply.
iii. DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD), BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE
The PhD programme is a four (4)-year full-time or six years’ part-time programme to be conducted in similar formats as the MPhil full time (regular) and part-time (sandwich)]. In the first academic year, candidates will undertake taught courses to enable them identify areas of research interest to conduct their research. The timeline for the full time (regular) format will be consistent with the academic timetable of the university. For Part-Time students, the first year will consist of two long vacations. Each long vacation period will be equivalent to one semester.
Entry Requirement
• A candidate shall hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution and shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the proposed programme (transcripts, work experience and publications)
• Applicants must hold an MSc or MPhil in Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Allied Health Sciences.
• Two reference statements/letters from professional and/or academic referees.
• All candidates shall be interviewed or be required to take an entrance examination, or both. Research proposal (not more than 700 words)
• Statement of purpose (not more than 500 words)
• Ghanaian and foreign applicants are eligible to apply.
MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (M.Phil.) IN APPLIED EPIDEMIOLOGY (REGULAR) (Ghanaian and International)
The MPhil in Applied Epidemiology is a 2-year (24 months) full time programme. The programme consists of a combination of didactic lectures and field placement activities.
Entry Requirements
To be admitted into the MPhil Programme, a candidate must:
• Have a good first degree with a minimum of second-class lower division (CGPA of 2.5 or more) in a relevant health / health-related field.
• Have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience (advantage).
• Have a background or demonstrated interest in Public Health.
• Submit a curriculum vitae (cv).
• Pass an entrance interview.
• Submit a 500-word concept note on a chosen area of interest.
• Submit Two reference letters from professional and/or academic referees
Duration of programme: 24 months.
MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH (MPH) (Ghanaian and International)

To be admitted into the MPH Programme, a candidate must:
• Have a good first degree with minimum of second-class lower division (CGPA of 2.5 or better) from an accredited university.
• Have a relevant working experience in the health sector as this will be an advantage. Candidates with high Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) but limited post-qualification experience can apply.
• Submit a curriculum vitae.
• Pass an entrance interview.
• Submit a 500-word concept note on their chosen area of interest.
• Ghanaian and International applicants are eligible to apply

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD IN PUBLIC HEALTH) – FULL-TIME (Ghanaian and International)
Entry Requirements:
To be admitted into the PhD in Public Health Programme, a candidate must:
• Hold a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), Master of Public Health, or other master’s degree in medical/health sciences r equivalent degrees in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
• Submit two reference letters from professional and/academic referees.
• Pass an entrance interview.
• Pass an onsite test that includes writing a 700-word essay on a topic of public health interest.
• Applicants are advised to visit the school’s portal on the university website to identify and make preliminary contacts with prospective thesis supervisors.
Duration of the Programme: Three years (Full-time)
MPhil Nursing Studies and MPhil Midwifery

• Applicants should have practiced for at least two years post-qualification and must be in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
