- UHAS Undergoes 2nd GTEC Cyclical Institutional Review
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has successfully conducted its Second Five-Year Cyclical Institutional Review of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), from Monday, January 12 to Friday, January 16, 2026.
The review forms part of the Commission’s statutory mandate to assess the performance of tertiary institutions and to ensure continuous improvement in quality assurance, governance, and academic delivery. The exercise aimed at evaluating progress made since the previous institutional review, conducted five years ago, to address identified gaps and promote sustained institutional growth and development.

The GTEC engagement started with a meeting with the University Management during which the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Frank Edwin, on behalf of the Unievrsity, presented the University’s report on the Second Cyclical Review, covering the period 2021–2025 and highlighted the status of recommendations arising from the 2020 review in the following strategic objective areas: Advancement in cutting-edge research; Enhancement of academic environment; Strengthening internal management processes; Stakeholder engagement; Promotion of diversity, culture, brand, and institutional identity; Financial sustainability and capital investment; Provision of state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, and technology; Risk management, monitoring, and results-based management; Communication strategy and global outreach.

Other activities under the engagement included interaction with the Management of the various schools and institutes of the University, interaction with the student body and a tour of selected university facilities to assess general infrastructure, learning environments and support systems.
The GTEC delegation was headed by Professor Mahama Duwiejua (Chairman of GTEC Council and Head of the Assessment Team). During the debriefing session, he commended UHAS Management for its openness and cooperation throughout the audit process.
Other members of the GTEC delegation included Professor Mohammed Salifu (Former GTEC Director-General), Professor Augustine Ocloo (GTEC Deputy Director-General), Professor Kwame Bosiako Omane Antwi(a GTEC Assessor), Dr. Emmanuel Oware-Nyarko (GTEC Director of Quality Assurance) and GTEC administrative support staff - Mr. Kwaku Boateng and Mr. Michael Owusu-Acheaw.

The Senior Management of the University comprising the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lydia Aziato, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Frank Edwin and the Registrar, Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, together with other Management members comprising Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and Heads of Administration of the various schools and institutes of the University actively participated in the exercise.
The successful conduct of the Second Cyclical Institutional Review affirms UHAS’ commitment to accountability, quality assurance and continuous improvement in the delivery of healthcare and allied sciences education.
