UHAS signs MOU with Baldwin University College and Klintaps University College of Health and Allied Sciences

MOU

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) on Thursday, July 3, 2025, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Baldwin University College (BUC) and Klintaps University College of Health and Allied Sciences (KCoHAS).

This is an initiative aimed at establishing a framework for cooperation to promote the development, research, education, integration and approval to utilize facilities at UHAS Simulation Centre, the biggest in West Africa.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Lydia Aziato, speaking at the MoU signing ceremony called on the Management of the two partnering institutions to see themselves as co-owners of the UHAS Simulation Centre and work towards making the collaboration a success story. She used the occasion to appeal to the government to allocate financial clearance to the University for the recruitment of professional staff for the full operationalization of the facility, which is urgently needed to support teaching and learning.

Professor Aziato recounted the recent successes of UHAS as the best university in Ghana in the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 8 in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025. She added that UHAS also placed second in SDG 1 and emerged third in Ghana in the overall Impact Rankings.  

The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Frank Edwin expressed his excitement about the collaboration and added that clinical simulation, interdisciplinary work and other interactions among students and staff would be of advantage in training healthcare professionals to follow the global trend. He also noted that the UHAS Simulation Centre required a number of equipment to make it fully functional and appealed to government and other stakeholders to come to the aide of the University in this regard.

A Council Member of BUC, Professor Ernest Owusu Ansah was impressed with UHAS facilities and extended his institution’s appreciation to UHAS Management for the collaboration opportunity.

The Founder of KCoHAS, Professor Philip N. Gorleku also expressed appreciation to the UHAS Management for the opportunity to work together in giving hands-on training to the next generation of healthcare professionals in Ghana and beyond.


The Registrar of UHAS, Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni applauded the two institutions for their interest in partnering UHAS towards the vision of a pre-eminent health research and educational institution dedicated to community service. She said in furtherance of the vision and mission of UHAS, it was expected that the Simulation Centre should be used to impact healthcare training in the entire sub-region and this could only be achieved through such collaborations.


The Founder of KCoHAS was accompanied by the Vice President, Dr. Maurice O. Gorleku and the Registrar, Mr. Douglas Frimpong-Nnuroh, while personnel from BUC comprised the Founder of the University, Dr. Akwasi Afriyie Achampong and the Registrar, Mr. Dominic Owusu.

Baldwin University College (BUC) and Klintaps University College of Health and Allied Sciences (KCoHAS) are private institutions in Ghana dedicated to the training of healthcare professionals.
