Mandate Of The Directorate Of Academic Affairs
As a core function of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, the Directorate of Academic Affairs has responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, procedures and practices for student admissions, examinations, graduation, curricular requirements and records in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the University.
The key administrative functions of the Directorate include the following:
Advertises various programmes of study of the University.
Processes admissions applications for prospective applicants. Prior to the Admissions process the Directorate prepares Roadmap and Time-lines which serves as a framework within which the entire process is carried out.
Organises orientation programme to welcome and introduce the University to new students at the commencement of every Academic Year.
Courses of instruction are registered by students using the online portal. In the registration process, the Directorate ensures that course codes and titles of courses are correct and a comprehensive list of all registered students and their courses are generated at the end of the registration period.
The Directorate in consultation with various Heads of Department prepares and implements teaching and examination schedules and allocates lecture rooms and examination centres as well as handle all logistical matters relaAting to the academic agenda of the University.
Prepares and issues statement of examination results, transcripts and certificates for the students
Prepares and publishes academic materials including Handbook of Regulations for courses of study for Junior Members in consultation with the Public Affairs Unit.
Before graduation, the Directorate compiles a pass list and submits same to the Academic Board for approval. The pass list consists of the names of all students who have successfully passed their examinations, including dissertations/theses as appropriate and are not in any form of indebtedness to the Institution.
The Directorate facilitates the Congregation Planning Committee meetings and ensures that the ceremony takes place successfully and timely.
DR. CEDRIC B. DORKENOO
Director Of Academic Affairs
Cedric B. Dorkenoo is the Director of Academic Affairs the University of Health and Allied Sciences.
He completed Ho Polytechnic with an HND in Secretaryship and Management Studies after which he pursued professional studies leading to his induction as a Professional Administrator & Chartered Management Consultant by the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants. He also holds an MBA (Information Technology Management) from PGSM, France and a Doctor of Business Administration (Information Technology Management) Business University of Costa Rica. He is a Member of the Association of University Administrators –UK.
Cedric served as Assistant Registrar/School Officer (Fred N. Binka School of Public Health) from May 2015 and was appointed Senior Assistant Registrar (Office of the Registrar) in March 2017. He was the foundation School Officer for the School of Pharmacy from October 2017 till he was appointed Director in August 2021. He joined UHAS from Ho Polytechnic (now Ho Technical University) where he worked as Assistant Registrar responsible for Student Records, General Administration, International Programmes with additional responsibility for the Academic Affairs Directorate for varying periods of time. He has close to 20 years’ experience in Higher Education Administration. He is a textbook reviewer (SHS, ICT) for Angel Publishing Services Limited, Ghana and served as a Proctor (MIS) for the University of Illinois at Springfield, USA.
His areas of research interest include: Higher Education Administration, Educational Technology, Organisational Learning and Leadership.
