Imperial–AIMS Global Fellows Programme (GFP) 2026

Theme: Addressing Heat-Driven Consequences of Climate Change in Cities Accra, Ghana (Hosted by AIMS Ghana)  

UHAS School of Graduate Studies (UHAS-SGS), in partnership with Imperial College and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) are pleased to announce a limited number of allocated slots for eligible PhD students in UHAS to participate in the world-renowned Imperial–AIMS Global Fellows Programme (GFP) 2026. The fellowship, jointly organized by Imperial College London and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) will take place in Accra, Ghana, from 1st to 5th June 2026.  

 

About the Programme

  • The Global Fellows Programme is designed to achieve the following objectives:
  • International and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Professional research competencies
  • Intercultural awareness
  • Innovation capacity in addressing global challenges

In 2026, the fellowship theme focuses on the following key thematic focus of Addressing Heat-Driven Consequences of Climate Change in Cities: Participants will work in interdisciplinary teams to develop innovative research ideas addressing urban heat challenges, climate resilience, sustainable design, public health risks, and equity-driven policy solutions.

PhD students from any discipline are eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

Prospective Applicants must:

  • Be a current PhD student at UHAS
  • Be at least 6 months into their PhD by June 2026
  • Not be in their final writing-up period
  • Be able to commit to the full five-day programme (plus arrival and departure dates)
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for international and interdisciplinary engagement

 

Application Requirements

Applicants will be required to:

  1. Explain how their skills and competencies (e.g., communication, adaptability, technical expertise, creativity) can contribute to innovations related to the programme theme.
  2. Describe what they expect to contribute to and gain from the programme.
  3. Demonstrate willingness to engage with international peers from AIMS and Imperial College, London.
  4. Show their willingness to share their experiences within the UHAS scientific community.  
  5. Attach at least one full academic record of performance on the PhD programme
