Professor Brian Greenwood of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Professor Kwadwo Koram, Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research paid a working visit to the Management of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho (UHAS) – Ghana to discuss academic and research collaborations that would inure to the benefit of all the institutions that will be involved.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Gyapong, as part of the deliberations, submitted that UHAS had seen tremendous development and improvement over the last five years however there is the need for more to be done in terms of human capacity development and research work. He also stated that the intended research collaboration with London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Noguchi Memorial Institute would further promote the University to the outside world.
Professor Brian Greenwood on his part indicated that an academic and research collaboration between his School, UHAS and Noguchi Memorial Institute is a move in the right direction. He said the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is already in both long-term and short-term collaborations with some institutions in Ghana namely University of Ghana, KNUST and Kintampo Research Institute, so the present collaboration which is being discussed would immensely add to the good work already on-going. He therefore urged the managements of UHAS and Noguchi Memorial Institute to expedite action on completion of the collaboration agreement.
