A four-person delegation from University of Eastern Finland (UEF) visited UHAS, October 13 and 14, at the invitation of the UHAS School of Pharmacy (SOP). The visit was facilitated by the new Dean of SOP, Prof. Kwame Ohene Buabeng, an alumnus of UEF.
Following business meetings with deans, heads of department, and faculty of various UHAS schools and institutes, representatives of the two universities formalized their desire for future cooperation in the area of health sciences by signing a letter of intent to explore areas such as knowledge sharing, faculty and student mobility, research or other related activities.
Welcoming the UEF team to UHAS on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Frank Edwin, Dean of the School of Medicine, shared a presentation on the UHAS vision, mission and achievements chalked in the 10 years of its existence and said UHAS is ready to corporate with University of Eastern Finland in the many fields of health sciences.
Prof. Jussi Kauhanen, Director of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition, who led the delegation, paid tribute to Prof. Kwame Ohene Buabeng for his instrumentality in fostering UEF’s relationship with Ghana. He also stated UEF’s readiness to collaborate with international institutions based on impact, responsibility and sustainable partnership, noting that his university has, over the last 10 years, collaborated with other universities in Ghana and South Africa in the areas of post graduate pharmacy training and research.
The other members of the delegation were: Prof. Jyrki Saarinen, Head of Department, Centre for Photonics Sciences; Prof. Ari Pappinen, School of Forest Sciences; and Ms. Rosenna Avento, Global Development Manager. They all took turns to share information about their areas of interest.
The group also visited the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health at Hohoe and toured recreational attractions in the region.
