A team of UHAS students led by the SRC President Mr. Divine Kporha, came first among six other participants from selected tertiary institutions namely: University Of Ghana, KNUST, Valley View University, Regional Maritime University And University of Cape Coast, who were shortlisted for the finals out of 96 applicants made it to the finals of the Osei Kusi Foundation and Selfless for Africa Community Service Awards.

Participants were asked to come up with voluntary projects by identifying a problem in the society and finding solutions to them.

After five minutes of presentation by the six teams and careful analysis by the panel of judges, the Youth Empowerment team from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, INSPYA team of the University of Ghana Legon, and the winning team EMBAK came top three.

Team EMBAK was presented GH₵ 10,000.00 to implement the dream project called: “The Duta Water project: a town in crisis.”

The project aims at providing a modern mechanized borehole for the people of Duta in the Volta Region by which they hope to reduce cases of water borne diseases and the stress they go through to get water from the Republic of Togo.

Team EMBAK of the University of Health and Allied Sciences expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Osei Kusi Foundation and Selfless for Africa for organising this year's Community Service Awards and to all supporters for championing a good cause.

Duta is one of the deprived communities in Aflao in the Volta Region. This community is located very close to the Diamond Cement Factory where residents are compelled to eat, drink, and inhale tonnes of cement dust every day but depriving them of potable drinking water made the situation worse.
The youth of Duta will never forget the footprints we will leave in this community after giving them Safe Drinking Water.

We should say the foundation has provided us the opportunity as youth of this beloved nation to put our spirit of community service into good use. The award scheme has inspired the TEAM to give more to the society and we hope to work with you more in the coming years to improve on the life of the ordinary Ghanaian.

The community service awards by Osei-Kusi Foundation and Selfless4Africa, aims at helping young people to take up the spirit of volunteerism.
Osei-Kusi Foundation has impacted about 500,000 youth by supporting their education, providing personal development books and other assistance.

The Chairperson of the grand finale event, Dr Joyce Aryee, Executive Director of the Salt and Light Ministries stated in her address that, volunteering is a selfless action and it is intended to promote or improve the quality of human life and a catalyst for socio-economic development.

She encouraged each and every one to make a change in the life of a person in their little corner.
Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Minister of Youth and Sports, the Clergy, Dr. Osei-Kusi, Dr Emmanuel Dei Tumi among several others were all present.

He also asked the youth to be focused, strive to be different and take such events seriously.
‘We dedicate this AWARD to our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fred Newton Binka for his hard work and sacrifice made to the establishment of UHAS with the vision of promoting a pre-eminent research and practically oriented health educational institution dedicated to community service’.
