The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) held its maiden Annual Retirees Send-Off Ceremony, under the theme "Recognizing Yesterday's Service and Dedication, Inspiring Tomorrow." The event took place at the University’s School of Basic and Biomedical Sciences Auditorium located at the main campus, Sokode-Lokoe, Ho. The event brought together members of the University community to honor the invaluable contributions of staff who retired in the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic years.
The initiative which was spearheaded by the Directorate of Human Resources (DHR) was not only a moment of celebration but also one of reflection and education, highlighting the importance of committed service and inspiring current staff to give their best until the very end of their careers.
In his welcome address, Mr. Godfred Amoah, Director of Human Resources, appreciated the immense contributions of the retirees during their active service in UHAS. He stated that a survey conducted by the DHR on the performance of the retirees as part of preparations towards the ceremony yielded overwhelmingly positive and encouraging responses.
In her remarks, Professor Lydia Aziato, the Vice Chancellor, paid glowing tribute to the retirees, acknowledging their foundational roles in the establishment of the University, shaping its progress and upholding its values of Excellence, Integrity, Innovation and Service and Care. She declared that the University through the Annual Retirees Send-Off Ceremony and other related activities would maintain strong ties with its retirees, whom she described as lifelong ambassadors of UHAS.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Frank Edwin, who was the main speaker for the occasion, praised the retirees for their relentless and committed efforts towards building the "systems, culture and reputation of UHAS", particularly during the University's formative years. He remarked that the ceremony was not merely a symbolic celebration but a public declaration of the values UHAS holds dear, which are underpinned by the fact that "service, loyalty and dedication" are written in an indelible ink and would never be forgotten. He assures the retirees that retirement marks not an end, but a new beginning and encouraged them to engage in activities that promote joy and fulfilment.
Professor Edwin also used the occasion to entreat employees of UHAS currently in active service to take inspiration from the legacy of those who came before them and to serve with purpose, excellence and integrity.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor concluded his speech with a tribute to the retirees, saying "May your names continue to be spoken in staff lounges and student stories, and may you always find a home here at UHAS."
The retirees took turns to share their experiences and lessons learnt during their active service in UHAS. There were also presentations of citations to deserving retirees, recognizing their contributions to the growth and development of the University.
Also present were the Registrar, University Librarian, Deans, Directors, faculty and staff of the University.
