The Volta Regional Minister, Honourable James Gunu together with the Volta Caucus in Parliament headed by their Chairman, Honourable Emmanuel Bedzrah (Member of Parliament for Ho West), who also doubles as the Chairman of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), paid a working visit to the Hohoe Campus - Fodome Site of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) to inspect the progress of work, on Monday, February 2, 2026.
The visit brought together chiefs and elders of the Fodome Traditional Area, government functionaries, Members of Ghana’s Parliament representing constituencies in the Volta Region and UHAS Management. It formed part of efforts by the Volta Caucus to assess ongoing infrastructural projects in the region as well as engage key stakeholders on the way forward.
According to Honourable Gunu, the primary objective of the visit was to jointly examine the pace and quality of work on projects in the region together with members of the Volta Caucus and to explore practical ways of accelerating the completion of the projects. He underscored the strategic importance of the UHAS Fred N. Binka School of Public Health, billed to be the first beneficiary school of the ongoing project at the Fodome Site, describing it as being critical to broadening the academic scope and national relevance of the University. The Regional Minister requested for a regular update from the University Management on the project as one of the means of keeping the project on track.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Volta Caucus and GETFund Board Chairman, Honourable Bedzrah, among other things, assured the University community of the Caucus’ commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the 12-year old project. He disclosed that a contract for accommodation facilities at the site has just been agreed upon as an addition to the ongoing administration and lecture hall facilities. Overall, he expressed satisfaction with the level of progress made on the ongoing project.
Honourable Bedzrah also highlighted the completion of the Eastern Corridor Road Project, noting its significance in facilitating smooth transportation and movement within the region.
The Vice Chancellor of UHAS, Professor Lydia Aziato, expressed her appreciation to the Volta Regional Minister, the GETFund Chairman and members of the Volta Caucus for their continuous support. She emphasized the need for a quick completion of the 12-year-old project at the Hohoe Campus-Fodome Site, citing congestion challenges at the current temporal location of the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health (FNBSPH) within the premises of the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe. Professor Aziato also appealed for expedited action regarding the construction of the UHAS campus internal roads at the Ho Campus – Sokode Site and Hohoe Campus – Fodome Site.
Speaking on behalf of the Paramount Chief of Fodome Traditional Area, Togbe Adze II, Divisional Chief of Fodome Agbesia, welcomed the delegation and commended the Volta Caucus for involving traditional authorities in development-related engagements. He noted that such inclusion promotes accountability and transparency in project implementation. Togbe Adze II added his voice to the call for acceleration of work on the Fodome Site project, stressing its potential to boost socio-economic development in the Fodome and Hohoe communities.
Other dignitaries present included Honourable Dzifa Gomashie (Member of Parliament for Ketu South), Honourable Richmond Edem Kpotosu (Member of Parliament for Ho Central), Honourable Edem Agbana (Member of Parliament for Ketu North), Honourable Worlanyo Tsekpo (Member of Parliament for Hohoe), Professor Frank Badien (Dean, UHAS-FNBSPH, Hohoe), Mr. Mahama Adongo (UHAS Director of Internal Audit), Arch. Ruth Xorladem Ayittey (UHAS Director of Works and Physical Development) and Mr. Gabriel Agbanyo (President of UHAS Alumni Association).
